Engraving Brass
Engraving Brass, also known as "Clock Brass", "Hard Compo" and "Leaded Brass" is a specific grade of brass which engraves easily and leaves a clean, sharp cut.
Specification: BS EN 1652:1998 CW612N (CZ120)
Finishes: Plain Mill Finish, Matt Finish, Satin Finish or Bright Polished & Polythene Coated
Applications: Name Plates, Lettering and Signs
Phosphor Bronze
Phosphor Bronze is a mixture of Copper and Tin which produces a "coppery" coloured material that weathers to a dark "Bronze" finish over time.
Specification: PB102
Finishes: Plain Mill Finish, or Bright Polished and Polythene Coated
Applications: Memorial Plaques
Anodised Aluminium
This grade of aluminium is chosen for its good machining qualities plus the fact that it is guaranteed to anodise.
Specification: BSEN 485-1 Anodised to AA15 / AA25
Finishes: Anodised, Natural (silver), Gold, Bronze & Black
Applications: Small Machinery Labels, Nameplates, Signage, and Kick Plates
Stainless Steel
Both of the grades of stainless steel specified below will engrave. Type 316 should be chosen when the material is exposed to corrosive elements, e.g., salt, weather conditions or aggressive chemicals.
Brunel Engraving Co use only 316 for nameplates and plaques.
Specifications: EN10088-2/ASTMA240: T304 S16 and EN10088-2 / ASTMA240: T316 S11
Finishes: 2B Mill Finishes, Dull Polished, Bright Polished
Applications: Industrial Pipe Tags, Industrial Kitchen Appliances Nameplates, and Plaques
Engraving Laminates
Flexible and Rigid Laminates (commonly known as 'Traffolite') typically consist of different coloured layers, so that engraving the top layer away reveals a different coloured layer beneath allowing for highly readable markings and very clean lines.
Engraving laminates are available in most colours, are immune to solvents and are heat resistant. A silver coloured engraving laminate may be used to look like anodised aluminium and stainless steel, a gold coloured engraving laminate may be used to look like engraving brass.
Engraving laminates are now available with Textured, Gloss, Matt, Satin, Stone and Wood finishes. These materials can be suitable for interior or exterior use.
Reverse Laminates
Usually engraving is carried out on the top (front) surface and can only be one colour. In reverse engraving, a special laminate is used that is engraved on the back surface and then the engraved areas are filled with coloured fillers.
By using different coloured fillers many colours are possible. If desired a three dimensional effect can also be produced.
With reverse engraving the top (front) surface remains smooth and flat for easy wiping and cleaning. Reverse engraving was developed for use in the food industry where cleanliness is of utmost importance.
Reverse-engravable Impact Acrylic laminates are available for both interior and exterior use.
Finishes: Gloss or Matt
Applications: Control Panels and Mimic Diagrams, General and Identification Labels, Serial Plates, Warning, Food Industry and Large Signage
Rigid or Phenolic Laminates
Suitable for interior use, this material can be used externally, but darker colours are prone to fade as it is not 100% UV stable.
These materials are actually paper based and mixed with phenolic adhesives to form rigid layers, which are bonded together. The nature of this process gives a hard surface with a good finish which is ideal for engraving.
Finishes: Gloss or Metallic
Applications: Control Panels and Mimic Diagrams to Personal Name Badges and are commonly used for General and Identification Lables, Serial Plates, Warning Signs, Valve Tags and Large Signage
Flex Laminates for Interior Use
Finishes: Matt, Satin or Metallic
Applications: Control Panels and Mimic Diagrams to Personal Name Badges and are commonly used for General and Identification Labels, Warning Signs, Valve Tags, Small Nameplates and Interior Signage
Flex Laminates for Exterior Use
Finishes: Matt, Satin, Textured, Metallic and Gloss
Applications: Exterior Signage, Control Panels, Mimic Diagrams, General and Identification Labels, Warning and Safety Signs, Valve Tags, Door Plates, Nameplates and Industrial Applications
